Newsletter Manager

Overview:
This position requires a combination of management ability and a thorough understanding of the computer and all the production programs commonly used to create newsletters and direct mail materials. The ideal candidate would have extensive experience producing direct mail materials, and more recent experience managing employees doing the production. Your job is to manage the Team Leaders so that the work flows smoothly and error-free and the clients are extremely satisfied with all aspects of The Newsletter Company. Client contact skills are also required.

Qualifications Required for the Job:

• Management experience, at least 10 years with a staff of at least 10 people.
• Ability to implement systems and procedures that allow detail work to flow through smoothly and error-free.
• Database experience (we use FileMaker Pro).
• Production experience, preferably with programs such as Quark, Photo Shop, and Freehand/Illustrator.

Management Duties:

• Manage the newsletter teams so that each runs efficiently, profitably, and error-free.
• Create/modify the systems, procedures, people, and equipment that are needed to produce all newsletters. This requires a thorough understanding of the computer and all software listed above.
• Hire/train additional Team Leaders.
• Seek out vendors and bid jobs.
• Run reports needed to determine profitability and productivity of each Team.

Team Leader

Overview:

The Team Leader heads a team of several Account Managers whose primary responsibility is account coordination with clients all over the United States and support staff, including art and production (both employees and freelancers), who together handle many national accounts. This is primarily a management position. Team Leaders report directly to the Newsletter Manager.

Your job is to manage the department so that:
1. the work flows smoothly and error-free
2. the clients are extremely satisfied with all aspects of The Newsletter Company
3. it contributes to the growth of The Newsletter Company

Qualifications Required for the Job:
• Thorough understanding of the computer, the Internet and all the production programs commonly used to create newsletters and direct mail materials. The ideal candidate would have extensive experience producing direct mail materials, and more recent experience managing employees doing the production. Your team includes a production staff (both employees and freelancers), as well as Account Managers whose primary responsibility is account coordination with clients all over the United States. Team Leaders report directly to the Newsletter Manager.
• Management experience, at least 2 years with a staff of at least 4 people.
• Production experience, preferably programs such as Quark, Photo Shop, Freehand/Illustrator.
• Database experience (we use FileMaker Pro).
• Client contact skills are also required.

Management Duties:
• Manage your team so that it runs efficiently, profitably and error-free
• Hire/train AMs and Production staff
• Help AMs with all editorial ideas, as well as advertising/promotion material to aid in the selling of our direct mail/newsletters. This includes ads for client publications, promotional pieces to solicit business, and gathering of ideas and materials for direct mail and newsletter products.
• Run reports needed throughout the entire process in order to track job progress.

Account Manager

The Account Managers at The Newsletter Company provide outstanding customer service to our newsletter clients.

Skills Required Include:
• Must be able to represent The Newsletter Company to national and local accounts in a professional manner.
• Must have excellent client contact skills over the telephone and in client meetings.
• Must be computer proficient, including the Internet.
• Must have excellent grammar, spelling and punctuation skills.
• Knowledge of production and printing is helpful.
• Database experience such as FileMaker Pro is helpful.

Inhouse Writer

Although most of our newsletters utilize freelance writers, one account in particular requires us to staff with several in-house writers.

The ideal candidate would have:
• at least three years retail writing experience
• skill and experience conducting telephone interviews
• excellent organizational skills
• great attention to detail
• a sense of "urgency" and need to meet deadlines
• some database experience

Responsibilities Include:
• Conducting telephone interviews to gather story content
• Writing compelling, concise copy, with story length typically less than 200 words
• Tracking your research and contact information in a tracking database (we use FileMaker Pro)
• Determining the page layout to feature the most relevant content
• Working with the in-house art department to make revisions as needed

MAC Graphic Designer

Graphic Designers at The Newsletter Company are responsible for leading their creative team in the development and production of newsletters and marketing materials.

Responsibilities Include:
• Art directing and producing newsletters and direct mail promotional materials.
• Art directing and creating comps for obtaining new business. This requires a quick study, someone with some business sense as well as creativity so that the design is not only beautiful and sells, but works for the goals and objectives of the client.
• Producing all marketing materials for The Newsletter Company, including newsletters, brochures, mailers, and website maintenance and expansion.

Skills Required Include:
• At least 5 years experience in designing varied print materials.
• Must be proficient in Quark, PageMaker, PhotoShop, and Freehand/Illustrator.
• Must be proficient at scanning and cleanup of artwork and logos.
• At least 5 years experience producing print documents on the Mac.

MAC Production Artist

Production staff at The Newsletter Company work from existing templates to produce hundreds of different versions of the newsletters and direct mail for our clients all across the United States. They work on teams with Account Managers and Team Leaders.

Skills Required Include:
• Must be proficient in Quark, PageMaker, PhotoShop, and Freehand/Illustrator.
• Must be proficient at scanning and cleanup of artwork and logos.
• At least 2 years experience producing print documents on the Mac.
• Design ability is an added bonus, but not required since most of the work has templates.

Team Assistant

This position requires a person who is extremely organized, able to juggle multiple projects at once, and has a thorough understanding of the computer, the Internet, and databases. Attention to detail is a must.

Skills Required Include:
• Excellent telephone skills.
• Computer proficiency.
• Friendly, cooperative, able to get along well with people.
• Good grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills.
• Knowledge of printing and production is helpful.
• Flexible and able to multi-task well.

Receptionist/Administrative Assistant

The Receptionist at The Newsletter Company is our primary interface with clients since most of our client contact is over the phone. This person must be enthusiastic and friendly, always striving to leave the customer with a great impression of our company.

Skills Required Include:
• Excellent telephone skills.
• Ability to remember names and voices so you can recognize and greet clients and vendors.
• Ability to keep track of everyone in office and be aware of all projects so you can easily direct incoming calls.
• Friendly, helpful demeanor to make all visitors feel welcome.
• Good grammar, spelling and punctuation skills.
• Computer literate with database experience.
• Administrative skills in order to assist Office Manager and anyone in the office with overflow work.

The Newsletter Company office is in the restored, historic Olive & Meyers building in downtown Dallas near Deep Ellum and the Farmers Market.
